Tigran Vardanyan

I am an Armenian-Argentinian cis-male, living in Los Angeles, CA since 2017. I received my licensure in psychology in 2016 from the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina. After graduation, I worked at the Psychosomatic Unit of the Hospital Durand in Buenos Aires, where I worked with underserved populations dealing with different psychosomatic issues and substance abuse. In 2021 I obtained my M.A. in MFT degree at Alliant International University and became an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist. My theory of choice as well as my background and experience are mainly in Freudian and Lacanian Psychoanalysis.

I have experience working with anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, psychosomatic issues, and issues related to identity construction (gender, sexual, cultural, ethnic, etc.). I work with adolescent and adult individuals, as well as couples and families facing relational issues such as communication issues, affairs, separation, or abandonment.

Many times, intergenerational patterns from our families of origin make their way into our present and they disturb our lives. It is very difficult for any individual to understand their problems without gaining access to this unconscious knowledge and family patterns. It is from this knowledge that the process of healing can begin.

I provide therapy in Spanish, Armenian, and English.

Raised in the Midwest and educated in California, I base my practice in authenticity and open-mindedness. My goal is to provide a safe, non-judgmental space where you feel comfortable exploring vulnerabilities. During our conversations we can navigate your anxieties related to relationships, career, self-esteem, whatever may bubble up. I see my role as someone walking alongside you, at your pace, offering guidance and support.

I earned my Bachelor’s in psychology from California State University, Northridge because it felt both intriguing and purposeful. After achieving this goal, I went on to pursue my Master’s at Antioch University, Los Angeles. During my studies I trained at The Maple Counseling Center in Beverly Hills, California. Here I saw individual adults, couples, and facilitated a gay men’s group.

I then chose to expand my experience by counseling adolescents at Bishop Montgomery High School in Torrance, California. Currently in private practice, I work with adults and couples. My foundation was created in depth therapy, but I don’t believe there is a one-size fits all approach to healing. I like to join my clients where they are, and assist with a variety of techniques tailored for you. Let’s build a therapeutic relationship where we explore anything from a benign issue to something heavily charged; we can then use that experience as a springboard for personal growth.

I can be reached at the phone number, email, or website below and would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Creating a space for you to explore is my goal as a therapist; to facilitate a process through which you can develop a more interconnected understanding of the different parts of your life and self. Such explorations can have a big impact on how we feel, and the increased awareness one gains can lead to seeing more choices about how to live life; choices which may have been there all along, just difficult to see: it’s hardest to turn the lens to one’s self.

What does this look like? A conversation. A space for you to talk about anything you want. As we work together, we’ll identify themes, patterns and early experiences that are leading to the issues you’d like to work on, noticing the many—often surprising—places their effects show up and can covertly guide your day-to-day life.

I work with clients and couples from diverse backgrounds, who experience a wide range of symptoms, but who, at the end of the day, usually feel stuck for one reason or another and would like a better relationship in love, family, work, play or with themselves. I have a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University and study Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy at the Los Angeles Institute and Society for Psychoanalytic studies. I have a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy, with a minor in Spanish and Portuguese, and also provide therapy in those languages.
